[RC] White Hairs everywhere - k s swigartTxponygirls said: We have a half arab / half walker cross. He is nine years old. Never has he had any white hairs anywhere, and now all of a sudden he is developing white spots everywhere! On his neck, face, and mostly butt! He does have some on his back, but the largest are on his butt and neck. Is he a chesntnut? Chestnuts (and I hear it is more prevalent in Arabians and/or their relations) can get a condition called birdcatching (I think), that causes this to happen. They come and go or sometimes they come and stay. It has a tendency to happen at/around the time that they change between summer and winter coats. I think I have once seen it in a bay as well (but I wouldn't swear to it). I have never heard of it being related to work, soreness, scarring, or anything like that. And I have never heard of it causing any problems. There is a chestnut Quarter Horse at the barn that I am at who is getting progressively spottier (although he is getting some black spots as well) as he ages.
