[RC] Marla's ataxia - terreKatThank you for sharing this with us--it's this kind of thing that keeps me reading ridecamp! I hope you will keep us updated on any further developments. Two comments: the poster who said that bloodwork does not always reflect the true state of affairs is quite correct--the body will do whatever it can to keep vital substances within normal parameters, even at the expense of systems that can't be easily tests. A classic example would be normal blood calcium levels, as the bones become increasingly porous. So, you can't "live and die" by blood test results; they can be misleading, especially in the absence of a full panel. Two--the major difference between oral fluids and electrolytes and IV therapy is absorption. Could this be a factor? If a critical component in the feed is not being absorbed properly, the fact that marla is eating plenty of it may not help her. Especially with the divalent cations (Ca++, Mg++, Fe++) sometimes their absorption can be 'competitive', and one will be absorbed at the expense of another.... I have No Clue if this is what is happening, but you asked for ANY theories... terre =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
