RE: [RC] [RC] ? horse ivermectin for dogs?OT - Agilbxr

Please, please be careful when dosing anything with medications made for any
other species. Yes they can be mixed between species, but you have to know
what it's going to do.

Ivermectin can be very toxic in higher doses. It can kill a collie pretty
quick. The ivermectin wormers with the tapeworm medication is not something to
give a dog unless your veteriarian has worked out an exact dosage, and you can
insure that he gets that. Keep in mind that in order to get the correct amount
of tapewormer from that horsewormer, you have to overdose the ivermectin for
the animal.

NEVER use any medication on a cat that isn't approved by your veterinarian.
Cats are super sensitive to medications. For example, need to kill your cat??
Give it a tylenol. Slow, painful, and torturous, but it'll kill that cat!

Having had a litter of gorgeous aussie puppies into our emergency vet hospital
for ivermectin overdose (I just let them lick some off my finger, it's good for
heartworms, right?), and losing 4 of the 6, lets just say it wasn't pretty, it
wasn't cheap, and it certaintly wasn't kind to the dogs. It's just not worth
it in the end.

Yes, my dogs get plain cattle ivermectin for heartworm preventative. .1 cc per
10 pounds, measured in a syringe, monthly. They never get horse wormers cause
it's too hard to accuratly measure the dosage. The best medication for
tapeworms is Advantage. Keep it on your dog, no fleas, no tapeworms. It's
pretty simple.

We as horse people will spend how much on keeping our equine companions safe
and healthy, but I don't understand why the dogs and cats aren't treated to the
same care and consideration.

Juli and the critters...
