RE: [RC] horse ivermectin for dogs?OT - Ranelle RubinLaurie, Years ago, my vet who was a "country vet" gave me the dosage to use cow ivermectin before dog "Heartguard" was available. He would get on the scale, pick up my 100+lb Akitas and then tell me to read the scale..it was too funny! I am sorry that I cannot remember the dosage, I had it written down at the time..now I use the chewables for my one dog. The liquid cow stuff was very inexpensive and at the time, there was not the once a month chewable available. I used it for years with all my Akitas (I was breeding 2-3 litters/yr) with no adverse reaction. Akitas are big and hardy, though so use caution as mentioned in other posts... I understand vets earn their money, but the drug processing cost and having to buy it from a vet and then having to take each dog in, etc. I need to find an alternative if I am going to be able to protect them. Just like shots, I give those too. I can't afford to feed the "pet as child industry", Heck I can't afford the "child industry" for my kids either! I just want to common sense advice/help.... And please don't flame me today for I am having my midlife crisis now, thank you...... _________________________________________________________________ FREE pop-up blocking with the new MSN Toolbar - get it now! http://toolbar.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200415ave/direct/01/ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
