RE: [RC] [RC] Marla's Mystery Ataxia Part - bobmorrisRather than looking at the many hypothesis being put forth, it might be worthwhile looking at exactly what the physiological make of the horse lends itself to as far as competition events. Consider the normal, not competitive life of the horse in its, as far as we know, natural state. It exists for the instant, eats, moves on eats, moves on and in a few instances runs at a rapid state for a short distance to elude predators. AT NO TIME, IN ITS NATURAL STATE, DOES THE HORSE TRAVEL AT EXTENDED SPEEDS FOR LONG DISTANCES! This is very important to consider. We then come along and "refine" the state of existence for the horse. We drastically alter the life cycle of the horse. We seriously interrupt the survival of the fittest cycle. We completely change the feeding habits and the foodstuffs. We confine the animal for extended periods of time. We then ask the horse to perform in a manner completely unnatural to its nature. AND WE WONDER WHY WE HAVE PHYSIOLOGICAL PROBLEMS! I ask one, and only one, question. Which is most important, the horse's welfare or the humans ego?
