Re: [RC] /Nat'l Champ. Quals - heidiSo, then in your opinion the original way of declaring a NC is the best way??? Frankly, that is the way I preferred. Guess cause that is what was in place when I started the sport....just had to learn to change. We could still have a "Race of Champions" if people wanted the head to head competition. Jody, that's it in a nutshell. Our AERC champion (or champions, if we do it by weight division) should be the overall points champion. I have no objection to AERC sponsoring an annual head-to-head competition as well, for those who wish to ride that sort of ride. It's no different from having some of the other forms of competition that we have within the sport. But to call the winner "THE" AERC Champion simply does not fit with what this sport is about. The onset of weight divisions would alter the old system somewhat, as it would likely be best to have a Top Ten in each weight division, instead of our old Top 25. But it would be nice to give some added recognition to the overall Top 25 ranking as well. (And the winner isn't always a featherweight--somebody posted the overall points list last year, and if memory serves, Crocket Dumas would have been #1.)
