Back off the pace so true - but wow I would find myself backing off well before 224. Am I a worry wart? S OK, I have to tell a funny story here. I was vetting at the finish of a ride several years back when a rider who had been in the back of the Top Ten but had seemed to have a fairly easy day of it came rushing up to me after crossing the finish line, in a big panic because as she was coming into camp, the reading on her HRM had jumped up to 158/159. And then after she dismounted, it jumped up to 200! Boy howdy, was she in a panic! I ran over with my stethoscope--horse did not appear to be stressed, and indeed, was at about 64 and dropping quickly. About that time, she discovered that she had accidentally hit the button on her fancy new HRM that switched it to the "time" mode--and it was actually 2:00 pm.... <g> Heidi =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
