Re: [RC] /Nat'l Champ. Quals - heidiThat was what used to be done before this format and it didn't seem all that popular (or well supported) when it was being done. As compared to what?? I can guarantee you, there were a heckuva lot more than 30 of us every year that counted our points and made an effort to get into the standings. It was far less elite, and far more "do-able" for the rank and file rider. It's almost laughable--the whining about how we had to change the system because it was supposedly so hard on the pocketbook, but the numbers of people who have supported the alternative have been very low, and as others have pointed out, very few pay attention to who won them. When we had a points system, each year's winner was practially a household word among endurance folks--and most of us who were around then can still recite the names of past champions under that system. How many of you can name the "National Champions" of the past few years? I'd be hard-pressed to recall any, and yet I know that I knew several of the folks who participated and did well. This is no slam on the folks who won--they did an admirable job. But it simply does not define an "endurance champion."
