Re: [RC] [RC] BEES !!! - Nancy SturmAmen and amen again. Anaphylactic shock is a result of hypersentitivity to a substance (bees, latex, peanuts, shellfish) and the patient can die really quickly. While we can do a good job of preventing contact with latex and other allergens, bees just aren't predictable. A few years ago a woman came into the little country store near here to use the phone because she had been stung by a bee. She collapsed and died before help arrived. Please, please if you're supposed to be carrying en Epi-Pen or benadryl, have it in your cantle pack or pocket and let the folks you ride with know not only that you have it but what they should do if you need help administering it. Amen--and each incident increases your allergic reaction. I just finsihed 5 years of shots to reduce my allergy. I got tested twice. I only reacted a little bit to the test, but it continued to swell and itch at the test site for 3 days. (I had one sting , and my leg felt like knives stabbing me,and it swelled slowly for an hour with ice on it, then I started to itche all over and lips to swell , by that time we were headed for the hospital,by the time we got there I was breaking into hives..... Ah, you can die quick if you are allergic--you may not have time without medication on you to get back to survive. Get tested as soon as possible. No joke here. I have run into people sho are allergic and their doctors don't seem to realise or get across to them how fast they could ---go--- They act non chalant about it. I guess they figure they might have to go see a doctor if they get stung, but the doctors aren't impressing them with the seriousness of it. And not everyone has a doctor available when out riding miles from nowhere on a horse they could toss them and take off, ,,,From: DarkHorseGoddess@xxxxxxx To: ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [RC] BEES !!! If you are, please get am EPI pen, and carry Benadryl (misspelled) with you. So...speaking of allergic reactions....does any one carry EPI for their horse?
