Re: [RC] Treeless Saddles + Back Soreness - Karen SullivanVal, I am responding since I have used SS for 10 years: ----- Original Message ----- From: "Val Nicoson" <sweetmare55@xxxxxxxxx> It is an original Sports Saddle (not BM) *The original Sports Saddle IS a Bob Marshall, he created the saddle AND the company. So, the question is, is it an endurance model, or training and schooling, or what? Where is the stirrup position? Is it really an "original?" and I used a Skito pad with 3/4" foam inserts. The Skito pad is a square western style pad vs the sports saddle model. *Yes, a definite no no. The inserts will not be wide enough under the saddle, perhaps leaving pressure points. Also used our standard neoprene girth which we've used for several years now. *should be fine. Gently probed her and discovered she is sore along her withers and somewhat along her sides...more in some areas than others. Also I noted that she seemed to be sore where the cinch rings are on both sides. *Questions I would ask here run the gamut of what is her back conformation like, how fit is she, how much do you weigh, how good a rider are you, where is the stirrup position, etc....I think with the SS, and I have seen numerous people using them over the years too.....is to have one where you personally like the seat size and stirrup position; use a skito pad that is designed for the saddle, don't cinch too tight, and ride balanced. \ith the saddle creeping forward onto her shoulders, I am supposing this could cause soreness too? With the saddle/pad moving against the lay of her winter coat. *Generally I find they stay where you put them, unless the horse is "downhill" in conformation, in which case you will have problems with any saddle.... What are your thoughts in that using a square western style Skito vs a sports saddle style Skito would cause soreness? Is this a prossibility too or not? *Yes, can cause a problem.. Am hoping for some further feedback from other treeless saddle users out there...much appreciated! I am willing to try the breastcollar/crupper option to see if this will make any difference. However, am wondering just how long I ought to rest her for the soreness to go away, before I try this option. Should I check her every couple days or once a week? She seems to be OK after a couple days but want to be sure what else to look for (pinned ears are easier to notice more so than subtle signs naturally). *Yes, do wait until you can detect no back soreness at all..... I have no experience in using cruppers at all; some folks reccomend them with this saddle. Definatly do NOT use a breastcollar to try to force the saddle in to any position, it will be too tight over the shoulders..... *Skito also makes a shim pad that is thicker on either side of the spine....this works on high withered horses. Karen Thanks much for the input already received...please bear with me for Sania's sake, Val + Sania (who wasn't happy tonight) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
