You ride with the junior at all times and enter and leave all vet checks together. The only exception is at the finish when you must be within a minute of each other. I used to let my juniors race the last 1/2 mile or so if they wanted to and it was what I considered safe and promised to make it there within a minute. I sponsored 6 juniors on one ride. We called ourselves the nerd herd. Heather was part of the nerd herd. My first junior was still 5 when she and I and my horse and her pony did a 50 miler. We had a great time....mb
