I agree that, given the rashness of youth and the need for consistency in 
the enforcement of rules, Courtney should not be allowed to ride unsponsored 
at 17.

However, I think people have been a little harsh with Courtney.  If there 
was one of us who could honestly say they never experienced the need for 
independence and that profound, almost overwhelming impatience that comes 
with it at her age, I would be rather impressed.  I remember how impatient I 
was to realize all my ambitions at that age.

As such, I think she should be given credit for trying to make a change, 
even if no one agrees with it.  She appears to have addressed the issue in a 
fairly sensible fasion and did make an attempt to get support.  I do not 
think it is necessary to agree with her, only to remember that we have all 
been that age.
