[RC] Gene Autry mount - rides2farThat is the only time, outside of Gene Autrey movies, I have seen that mount done. My best friend did it onto his Shetland all the time. We held "house robberies". I sat on my pinto pony outside his kitchen door and held his pony's bridle. He sneaked into the back door of the house and eased into the kitchen to get some food without his mom seeing him. If she caught him she'd make him quit riding for the day. He would open the fridge, steal a package of ham and his mom would yell from the other room, "Tracy, is that you?" and he'd bolt out the door with the package of ham in his teeth, mount his pony from the rear and we'd take off at a dead gallop before his mom could get to the door. It was *so* fun. We felt like real outlaws. I decided I was going to learn to do it on my pony which was bigger (I could do it on his). I tied her front legs to her back legs with my reins like breeding hobbles, then kept running up to her rump and stopping. Never got the nerve to try. She always bucked if you sat anywhere but right up against her withers and I knew I couldn't make it that far in one leap. I finally gave up.>sigh< I think at these international rides when those guys lead the sheik's horse out to the out timer for him it would be pretty cool if he'd mount that way. What the heck, you've got all those people to hold the horse.
