Another Zayante story, and then I'll quit, was in 1994 when he carried
Barbara White across the Tevis finish line.  It was Barbara's 20th

completion of

that ride and she took Zay over to the water trough which is about 30 feet

beyond

the finish line.  Her husband walked toward her with flowers. Zay lifted

his

head, water dripping from his muzzle, saw those flowers coming at him and
figured he should be outta there.  Barbara hung on somehow and her husband

backed

off, but a dunking in the trough was barely averted.
