Re: [RC] [RC] fear of arabs, mounting - Kristen A FisherMaybe I am missing something about the difference in these 2 things. Isn't it safer to kick off the off stirrup, swing your leg around beside you, kick off the near stirrup, and slide to the ground? Why would you not be able to do this regardless of saddle type? Kristen in TX Barbara McCrary wrote:I have taught myself to dismount English style......it seems safer. As well, the horse I'm nowriding used to pull away from me as soon as I had only one foot in the stirrup, and I would lose my balance and end up on the ground almost under him. He doesn't do that any more, but I still don't like taking thechancethat I may have only one foot on the ground and something dangerous isaboutto happen.Barbara, can you dismount English style from a Western saddle? I have a sports saddle and the cantle is too high for me to do that, but, I agree with the safety issue. I miss my old Stubben for that reason, although the sports saddle makes it harder for the horse to run out from under you. Getting on or off, since most of my injuries came at around that time, has seemed a lot more risky to me.
