[RC] re: ultium and other high tech feeds - LaBrake, Denise A

Your post on the high fat feeds is interesting to me. I'm just beginning
training for distances rides with my 10 year old Mare. For two months we
have been riding 3 to 4 times a week. She is also turned out on a hilly 3
acre pasture so she has came a long nice. I'm starting to see her muscles
build nicely.

She is on Omilene 200 and has been her entire life...less or more depending
on how much we work. She does so well on it.
I'm just starting my research on her feed, if it has high fat or not. The
breeder stressed to me that no matter what I do with her keep her on a grain
like Omilene 12 to 14% protein. She said the same thing about her hay,
alfalfa hay only with same protein %.

My question, do any of you suggest leaving her on Omilene but move her up to
the 300 or 400? Or should I consider an entirely different feed altogether?
This is a tough adjustment to make for me, since she is my first horse. Had
her 5 years now and have not feed her differently yet.

Your the experts!
