At the farthest extent of my ride, we were probably 2 1/2 miles from the epicenter. There could have been tremors but I didn't notice. We did have an accident during that ride - because of pilot error Nas lost his footing off the edge of a narrow trail and he went down, rolling over. I remember seeing his whole body going over me, but for some reason - maybe I was in a hollow, or maybe he bounced - I didn't get crushed. Nas got up at the bottom of the hill, shook himself off and waited for me. I got up and took inventory, seemed OK, too. Thank goodness it wasn't a hillside like here in NM, rocky and bare. That hill was under oak trees and was grassy and padded with oak leaf mulch. Only damage appeared to be some scratches on my saddle. After the earthquake, which was just a few hours after I got home, the memory of the fall with Nasrif was totally buried until Paul - who hadn't been home when I got home, and didn't reach home till about half an hour after the main quake, asked me later how I got all the scratches and bruises. I had to think about it for a while until I remembered going down that hillside. If he hadn't asked, it might have totally slipped into my unconscious! ________________________________ Lif Strand fasterhorses.com Quemado NM USA High Country Rider: An endurance rider's journal www.fasterhorses.com/highcountryrider/
