Re: [RC] elevator ride thoughts - heidiWhat can we do about awarding bonus points? Is there any GOOD reason why bonus points aren't awarded? Actually, there are two good reasons. Those who elevate have the privilege of stopping earlier and still getting credit--something that those who commit to the distance up front don't have. And those who elevate usually are starting at a different time--so there is no way of knowing how to place people who might have the same "time" by the clock but were running an hour apart, so that they had no opportunity to pit their strategies against each other on the trail. Although I'm one who pretty much rides my own ride, I will still make variations depending on where the next person is in my weight division. Is it fair for me, if I enter the 50 "up front" at the beginning, to have to hustle "just in case" a HW from the LD elevates and moves me back a place? No--I should be able to rely on the fact that since the next HW is an hour behind me, I can spare my horse more this weekend, so that he has more left for the next ride. Points are based upon placing--and you can't fairly place people who are not "running on the same clock" so to speak.
