I was turning my mare out with my mom's horse, who continually herds her into the wall of the arena, until she kicks out at him. I've stopped doing that, but now she's laying her ears back whenever a horse approaches on the side in the arena when I'm in saddle, and has kicked out at horses in her stall. The double barrel is unacceptable on the trail or in the arena and I want to discourage even the thought of it! HOw? I've been popping her with the whip lightly and saying "NO!" when the ears go back, which is what the cowboys out here do. She's gonna get a red ribbon on the rump for a few trail rides until she proves worthy. Other ideas? Is this a occassional problem on endurance rides and what is protecal? Thanks!
