Re: [RC] Old-time breeders - heidiHeidi, do you (or anyone else) know about a breeder, Lloyd Silva, who bred arabs in Oregon? I think he bred Bay Abi (who was bought by Sheila Varian). My horse, Suni, is descended from Bay Abi through U-SA-ABAY, before he went to Sheila. Loyd Silva (only one L in Loyd) was an extremely prolific breeder, with 383 registered foals to his credit. His first foals were born in 1948, and he bred Bay-Abi's sire Errabi as well as Bay-Abi himself. Other well-known stallions of his breeding include Bruk-Abi and U-Ari. He had pretty well quit breeding by the early 80's but had one foal listed to him as late as 1988. His program was primarily CMK with occasional bits of Babson and "Patton Polish" breeding, primarily through *Witez II but also through mares such as Angyl (Bay-Abi's dam) who was out of the Patton Polish mare *Wierna. Although Bay-Abi is likely the best-known of Loyd's horses, he was indeed successful with many of them in the show ring, and his horses are well-represented in modern CMK pedigrees, in addition to Bay-Abi's rather large contribution to the mixed-source Arabian population.
