[RC] Saddle conversion/retro-fit option - terry banisterDo you have a Western, English or OrthoFlex saddle that you hate to part with, but no longer fits the horse, and you are back into the saddle-search market but don't want to spend thousands of $$$?As you know, there are four "types" of saddles: * RIGID TREE - English, Western, Australian * FLEXIBLE TREE - Boz, TexFlex, etc. * TREELESS - Bob Marshall/SportSaddle, Ansur, Tuend, etc. * FLEXIBLE PANEL - American-Flex, Reactor Panel, Sommer Oakfield, Free'n Easy, OrthoFlex, Rocking-R, etc. Well, if you have a RIGID-TREE saddle, (except Aussies) or you want to update an Ortho-Flex, and it has a good straight tree, it can be retro-fitted with flexible Delrin panels for approximately $400-$500, and give that saddle a whole new life. These are the patented panels that are used on the American-Flex saddles (each flexible-panel saddle company uses Delrin panels, but they are machined, cut and mounted differently), which provide a large surface-bearing area on the horse's back while leaving the spine completely open, and they flex with the horse's movement and also the changes in body shape over time. They are laser-cut and triple-layered for progressive loading at the connecting points, and have a patented rear channel that slides to allow better movement for the horse. The saddle conversion process is described in the "Questions" section on the American-Flex website: www.american-flex.com. The conversion is done by El Dorado Saddle and Tack.
