One of the most cruel things a breeder
can do to a horse is pull its papers. This condems the horse to go
for sub-prices and usually end up with sub-owners. A $500 youngster
sold with papers may someday end up with an owner who wants to show or
whatever, but that good owner may pass it up if it is not registered.
I believe papers belong to the HORSE, and should always stay with that
horse.
On the same note, freeze branding can
be a lifesaver to a horse as well. I once bought a "killer horse" at the
auction..a beautiful white gelding.. who turned out to have a freeze
brand. We read it and discovered he was a Silver Patriot son...and he
was an old showhorse. We found a great home for him with kids that he
would not otherwise have found.
