RE: [RC] cause of colic - fine hay? - Jackie Hardin

I have found that with my horses (I usually feed a coarser hay) that when I do feed a finer hay, I have to be sure to give them much less.  I had a horse and a mule that coliced (just minor colic) from eating the finer hay.  I was always told that it was the fine hay that caused their systems to get backed up because it compacted more easily than the coarser stuff.  Anyone else had this happen?

Jim, I too have fed it all my life and never had a problem. But that
doesn't mean that it can't cause a problem

I see no reason why the rider I was riding with would make this up :-p Why
don't you call the vets at Auburn and find out more for us so we can all
rest easier in the SE? :)
