Re: [RC] over populated 'crappy' horses - heidiPlease Reply to: patty pattypeck85@xxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== I keep a pretty close eye on "the market" (I have lots of down time at work) and I just don't see alot (over abundance) of arabs out there under 10 years old for sale at any price compared to other breeds. There seems to be a surplus of QHs, gaited breeds, and mustangs. I think there may be a shortage of availabe endurance type prospects out there in the next 10 years. JMO Patty Patty, the Registry agrees with you. Registration numbers are WAY down, and the general Arabian population is aging. There are still the fad breeders, who are willing to breed and breed and breed to "Ibn Big Name Stallion" and are willing to throw away 99 foals to get the 100th "show star"--but their numbers are down as well. (And far too many of them dump their colts unregistered, because they simply are NOT marketable as riding horses... <sigh> It is always a red flag to look at a breeder's record over the years and see WAAAY more fillies registered than colts. The numbers are rarely an even 50-50--but if they are way off the scale, I cringe a bit.)
