[RC] cubed hay - Jonni JewellLots of cubed and pellet type hay replacements in areas with no pasture, and dense stables, such as Los Angles. Some of the stables used to buy cubes in bulk, and it arrived in a dump truck. That was all that was fed. No hay. A lot less waste, and I am sure was more economical for them. I fed a diet of hay replacement pellets for about 2 years when in CA. Horses did very, vey well. I fed Sacate brand pellets out of Arizona. They have a Bermuda / alfalfa blend. Bought them at Petsmart. A nice grade pellet. Just like hay, you can smell it, and tell if it is quality stuff, or poor grade. I personally don't like cubes, because of their size, it is easier for a case of choke. Horses can choke on hay, pellets, or even grain, but I just don't care for the cube size. Pellets come in different sizes. From the size like rabbit feed, to larger ones that are the size of a pencil, maybe a little bigger around, and an inch or so long. You can soak them, if you worry about choke. I would choose one that was not straight alfalfa.
