Re: [RC] Questiions about Gelding a Colt - heidiI knew I'd get some flack for it, and by all means don't feel you have to agree with me. I'm just a die-hard mare fan (and I know there are others out there--you know who you are) who has never met a gelding that did anything for me. Well, actually, I think mares are highly underrated, and make pretty special riding horses as well. I grew up on mares, and one of my most successful seasons ever was on a mare. They are tough, they are survivalists, and those given a chance make darn fine endurance horses. My only "disagreement" with you is that gelding makes the males dumb--they are still plenty smart, but yes, they ARE different than mares. But boy howdy, so are stallions! Actually, stallions have far more fragile egos than geldings--when it comes to being tough, I'd rank mares as #1, geldings as #2 (but less inclined to want to do it "their way" than mares), and stallions as a very distant third... (And I LOVE my stallions, and enjoy the challenge of the "stallion mentality"--but will be the first to admit that most of them would be better at what they do under saddle if they were geldings!)
