Re: [RC] Questiions about Gelding a Colt - heidiBut if some of them were geldings, we would not have an over population of crappy horses, that have no sale value, and end up at the killers. That's a nice line, but it is the irresponsibility of the folks who OWN the stallions who make that happen. One stallion can get waaaaay too many mares pregnant, and some stallions do--the irresponsible breeders who will breed 50 head to get one "show ring star" are among the worst offenders. Among the more responsible folks are the preservation folks who have oodles of stallions, but are very selective about the mares to whom they breed them--some of the stallions may only have 10 or 20 babies in a lifetime, to keep a line going, and the breeders are darn particular about where those babies end up. So it still boils down to people.... <sigh> Heidi =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
