Re: [RC] [RC] how to subscribe to Tome Ivers list? - heidiI just joined due to this discussion here (I was curious) and because I thought his bowed tendon book was good. Just in looking at the last few days' posts on his list, I can see the attitude people are mentioning. I thought his tendon stuff was pretty good as well, as was was his concept of having race horses actually be FIT before they were asked to be fast. Too bad the BS gets in the way. He's also pretty rabid about feeding fats. Kinda sounds like it's the #1 sin in his mind. Oh, well, sure isn't going to stop me from feeding fats -- I like the results I can see in my horses too much. And I trust Susan G's advice, since she's a nutritionist AND an endurance rider & vet. I see the point of avoiding fats right before race day (especially if planning to actually *race*), but that's what Susan G recommends last time I looked. Ivers seems to be saying that feeding fats to any athletic horse is absolutely horrid. That's been one of his real hot buttons. Susan G was among those who patiently kept up the good fight over here on RC on that topic--along with Sarah Ralston DVM and several other very knowledgeable folks. But every time they could prove their cases with research references, he just replied by slinging invective. Like you, I kind of like to have a clue from whence an opinion comes--does somebody actually have the experience and expertise to back it up, or are they just plucking it out of thin air?
