[RC] Guess which horse is more sore? - Chris PausThe 17 YO one who carries a heavyweight rider and rides for at least 25 miles at a time in competition and lots of practice miles over tough terrain Or the 8YO horse who carries light weight riders on level ground in a schooling situation? I took Star and Zabbie to the vet chiro today. Star, the 17YO, was in much better shape! Very few sore spots. Dr. D. said his back is in marevelous shape. Very flexible and rounded. Lots of spring in his back and his stride. He found a little sore spot in his right shoulder, which I suspected because he was tripping a lot. But otherwise, he's in great shape! All that exercise is good for him! Zabbie, the 8YO, had the most soreness as I suspected. He's been evading the bit, going hollow and getting snarly when we tack him up. Even though he's been carrying lighter riders this summer, they are inept and it shows on the horse. Zabbie's getting a moratorium from schooling for awhile and going back to trail work to work on that belly and back. The next students are going to do more lunge line work before they get any reins. Just goes to show you that the WAY we ride has a lot to do with our horses' health and well being. I had Zabbie nicely rounded and working off his rear before he started giving lessons, sigh... chris ===== "A good horse makes short miles," George Eliot Chris and Star BayRab Acres http://pages.prodigy.net/paus =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
