RE: [RC] opinions - Melissa AlexanderOne should be able to listen to whatever anyone has to say, no matter how poorly said, no matter how intellectual, no matter how opinionated. If those were the only options, I would agree. Unfortunately, you could add "negative," "derogatory," "mean," and a whole lot of other unpleasant descriptors to that list, and I, personally, choose not to let that kind of energy into my life. Does it mean that I miss out on some information I might find useful? Yep, I expect so. But I haven't really suffered for it. I've found a wealth of information coming from people who treat other people with respect -- and those are people I'd rather reinforce with my attention and questions. It's a nice idea to think that people should be able to put their emotions on the back burner and simply sift through the data, but that just isn't how it works in many cases. I've seen people who truly *needed* help with their animals close their minds to it because someone responded without empathy. That's sad, and it's the animals who are going to suffer.
