RE: [RC] [RC] abscess - Mel CopelandHi,I am not a vet, but I can share my experience with abcesses. When my vet dug out my mare's abcess, I started soaking gauze in betadyne and packing it into the hole. I then put a clean rag across the sole of the hoof, vet wrapped the hoof a few times to hold the rag in place and then duct taped over that. I put a newborn size diaper over that and then duct taped it on. I changed the dressing twice a day. After removing the old dressing and before applying the new, I soaked to hoof in warm water and epsom salt. I kept doing this for a few days after there was no more green yucky gunk coming out of the hole.
