Re: [RC] Things I learned...part 2 - Maryanne Stroud GabbaniDear Laura,Your posts on the Bryce Canyon express so beautifully the joys that I see in endurance and any type of distance riding. When I started roaming further afield from my home base at the edge of the Sahara many years ago, I realised that there is a decompression time that is necessary to realise just what you are doing up on that horse and to slow down enough to really SEE what is around you. A quick hack out for an hour or so just doesn't do it because you are still on the everyday fast forward. As the owner of a number of purposely slow horses I really appreciated your comment that on a beautiful trail, a slow horse can be better than a fast one. As I recently noted to my dismay, on a dark trail next to an undercut canal bank, a careful horse can be worth her weight in gold. One of these days when I win the lottery I'm going to move heaven and earth to join one of the XP rides for a week or so. Like you, I will have to depend on the kindness of strangers as bringing my own horses would be out of the question. Meanwhile, I will keep plugging away at exploring the trails of Egypt. Wishing that I was there. Maryanne Stroud Gabbani Cairo, Egypt On Thursday, Sep 9, 2004, at 02:27 Africa/Cairo, Laura Hayes wrote: ?
