Re: [RC] NSH Horses & Saddlebreds in Endurance - Mollie Krumlaw-SmithHeidi, You've misunderstood my post. I am a very firm believer in that only quality horses should be bred to quality horses but that's another topic. The point I was trying to make is that if you find a horse with the conformation, brain, and attitude FOR ENDURANCE the specific breed of horse shouldn't matter. Since this is an endurance forum I didn't think I had to be that specific in my post. :-) I've seen many, many breeds of equines do well in this sport, ponies, mules, gaited horses, and yes even draft horses. The best draft I can remember is a horse ridden by a women in Vermont named Lee Alexander. The horse did quite a few 100 mile rides. Angie came up with the name of the rider in the SE that did so well on the Saddlebred, it was Beth Rogers. MKS In my opinion a good horse is a good horse regardless of the breeding. If you are looking at a horse with great confirmation, a good brain, and a willing attitude you're half way there. Those traits COME from good breeding... That said--yes, there are some good NSH and ASBs in the sport. They are the ones with good conformation, good metabolics, and brains--ie the ones that throw back to good old breeding when both breeds were bred for those traits... :-) Heidi -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by IntelliBlock MailScanner, www.intelliblock.net and is believed to be clean. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
