Re: [RC] stallion question - SandyDSA

agree that a lot of time and good training will help most of this. TOOH, is he kicking unreasonably or is he getting rear-ended from behind in a way that makes him feel threatened? Seems to me that if he is getting pounded from behind, there needs to eb some dialog with those who think it just dandy to rear end any horse. I don't allow this - won't ride with people who do this sort of thing. It isn't just a stallion issue - it is a rider issue to be honest. Either a horse's rider needs to train said horse not to kick and/or oTHER rider needs to teach OTHER said horse not to rera end others. Pushing - physically or just coming close? We don't allow our horses to come into contact with others, and expect the same from others. The occasional ...."event" when something happens is one thing - an attitude of "i don't respect your psace" is another. IN the end, gelding is always an option - even for our pleasant 19 year old guy. I think he knows it too - his manners are impeccable:)!

I know many of you have ridden stallions lots and I was wondering my
stallion who is six and just under saddle has a REAL bad issue with horses
coming up and pushing or getting real close to him.  He KICKS... Like if I
load another horse next to him in the two horse he goes crazy kicking then
settles down.  On the trail he is perfect riding with other horses etc but
if they crowed him from behind he kicks.  Is this normal stallion behavior
or what. I get on him for it but I am wondering if he will get over it or
will always do this.
Gelding him is NOT an option....
