Re: [RC] Circulation to the hoof - Jonni JewellThose blown out quarters that happen with horses shod all the time are caused by those nails.<<< Howard, I have not seen that issue with my horses. But, I still ponder the difference in feet as to region. I bought a horse from Florida who had VERY flat, dropped sole, spread out feet. He had not had shoes on in years. Had lived in that soft, sand type soil. His feet are HORRIBLE, but slowly getting better. Here in Texas, we also experience the wet / dry thing, where the horses go from wet dew covered pasture, to hot, hot dry conditions, to wet, to dry. I think that is tough on the feet. I have one horse that I moved from California with us in 2000. His feet do show a difference in "condition" than they did in CA, and I think it is the living conditions more than anything. There, the conditions were fairly consistent (and dryer) , and his feet were a tad harder. Here, the wet does seem to make them a little "softer". But, in all of that, I still have not seen blown out quarters with any of my horses that were shod properly in any conditions. But I have been blessed with some wonderful farriers. The one I used in CA, I had for 25 years. The one here in TX is excellent also, and I could see using him for just as long.
