Just interested in knowing more. There is pressure on the bottom of the foot when the hoof lands. I suspect that this pushes blood out of the bottom and up along the expanded periphery. Since veins have valves, preventing backflow, when the hoof contracts again when the pressure is removed, that would cause the blood around the periphery of the foot to move on up the veins.
