Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] Horses!!! stop with the height - starlingfeatherOn Fri, 27 Aug 2004 17:52:14 GMT, Ridecamp Guest <guest-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: As for those who say that those who like tall horses don't put down the shorter horses, you have got to be kidding. "Bigger is better" is a common theme and shorter horses -- including those smack dab in the middle of the breed standard, so by no means short for the breed -- are constantly bashed, appologized for, lied about, etc etc etc. All based on something so trivial as height... So, I guess some of us who like & breed & ride "short" horses do get sensitive since we are constantly hearing how our horses are "too small." Just as many of us Arabian owners get sensitive to the constant Arabian bashing in many circles. What Nicole said. "bigger is better" is a common American vice which doesn't just affect Arabians, and it's not a recent one either. Quick check: how many 16h+ Arabians have you seen advertised in the last week? How many 13.2h or less? That's what I thought you'd say. Yet 16h is 3 inches higher than the top of the normal range for the breed, and 13.2h is 3 inches lower than the bottom of the range. Some days I'm tempted to get a pony card for my 14.1 1/2 (barefoot, freshly trimmed, stick and level) Davenport stallion, just to make the point. :-) Ambar http://ambararabians.com/ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
