[RC] Need feedback making a decision.. - Jonni Jewell

Personally, I'd do the CTR. If the horse acts naughty at the beginning of a
ride, unless you truly, truly don't mind that, she needs to learn to keep
her brain together. You said the endurance ride is flat and fast, with many
who race. That is not the environment I want for a horse new to the sport,
or coming back after a long lay off (and with a history of airs above the
ground at the start.) You can try to start late, and last, but chances are,
you will still end up with someone zipping past you, possibly setting her
off. And you say that "endurance folks seem a lot more tolerant/sympathetic
of a goofball horse than CTR judges" is an interesting statement. I think
most who ride distance rides, would really like their horse to be good at
the start. But many just don't take the time and effort to get them to do
so. CTR riders work harder at it, as it is part of the judging. I love
having a horse at the start of an endurance ride, with a big group taking
off out of camp, that stays sane. That takes time and effort in most cases,
and worth it to me.
