Re: [RC] Height of Arabians - Sue SingletaryI think that horses are like people they are as big as they want to be. Depending on their attitudes they are big or little. I have a Spanish Mustang and an Arab mare that are the same height and about the same build but I really look out of porportion on the Arab. I think she must be finer boned. I think it is time to stop apologizing for them being an average 14.1 to 15.1 and be proud of this ancient breed.Well said, Maria. The breed has always had the occasional individual taller or shorter, but when the extreme is used as a selection factor, other valuable traits fall by the wayside. When one breeds for the best possible balanced horse and tall happens, that's one thing. When one uses tallness as a selection factor in breeding, the results are usually very disappointing. I highly recommend the Albert Harris article that is the preface for the Arabian Stud Books: http://www.sagehillcmk.com/Preamble%20.html Heidi =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
