RE: [RC] [RC] Choke/epm? - Laurie DurginYES, quite possible some horses depending on where in the neural connnections the protozoa are can cause this. I know of a couple on the epm groups at yahoo that the choking etc. were the symptoms that got their attention first, horses couldn't eat._____ Have a vet get to the horse and give it a neurological exam and check for other clinical symptoms. Has the horse had a fever or anything? West Nile could be a possiblility too, they often have facial tics.See the following sites:http://www.tufts.edu/vet/sports/neuro1.html http://www.meadowherbs.com/EPMcenter.htm Also Yahoo Epm group(they will give good info , though will grill you first as about 1/3-1/2 the people who come on, horses have something else rather than epm and their vets may or may not know much. They also know alot about Lyme disease, west nile, EHV 1, wobblers. I can tell you you need a good vet as soon as possible to see the horse--West Nile can kill fast, and the other diseases , more damage if you wait around.....
