RE: [RC] [RC] Cell phones on the trail - Nancy MittsMike,That still doesn't address the issue of gathering information while on trail. Someone with multiple crew vehicles can meet their rider several times on trail and pass direct verbal info. This would in fact give even more advantage to those with a larger crew. In my opinion, having that food, water, shoeing equipment etc. available on trail is much more of an advantage that knowing what's going on with other riders. If the objective is for every rider to operate only on what info they can gather with their own eyes, that's fine. That is what would need to be communicated in the rules, rather than just focusing on e-communication. I would hate for every rider who is communicating "innocent" information to have to justify their every word. Just how/who is going to police all that, short of banning any such device? I don't see how the rules as written address this at all, and I don't see AERC or most rides being able at this point to handle it. A high profile ride with a lot at stake should probably give more serious thought to the issue, though.
