Re: [RC] Height of horses - heidiAlso, what about the preferences of the riders? Very few riders have posted that they actually *prefer* shorter horses...most want something 15.0h or more, and that seems to be the prevailing attitude among riders that I've heard express opinions in person. Maybe there would be more 14.1h horses on this list if riders weren't selecting for taller horses? Just a thought... Dawn in East Texas (who prefers shorter horses) My husband (who is just a hair under 6' and who comes from a jumping and dressage background where 16+h horses are the norm) raves on and on about how much more agile and athletic our more average-sized Arabs are. You couldn't get him back on taller horses for love or money. Most of ours are between 14.2 and 15h, but he has ridden one gelding that is about 14.1. Usually, when people call asking about horses and height is a selection factor, it just tells me that they are more concerned about how they look on the horse than they are about success in the sport. The balance and substance are what give the horse athletic ability--not the height, or lack of it.
