[RC] Getting into the trailer - GarnerT

I bought my horse because he would not load to go home! He had Parelli
training, but I didn't, so that didn't work (you have to be smarter than the
horse)! What worked for me was finding a really nice quarter horse trainer
who would stop by & practice loading him day after day using a butt rope.
He took a rope that ropers use (a little stiff) & cut it down. He made a
loop at one end & encouraged Taz to go in the trailer. This does not work
with all horses, however! You cannot pull them in, they're just too big, so
if they don't want to go in, they won't. Taz was respectful of the rope
around his butt, so he would go in quietly. I had to use that butt rope for
3 years! I eventually was able to just hold it on my shoulder & he would go
in. I am happy to say that now he loads nicely without the butt rope.
Thank God!! There's nothing worse than being out in the North 40 & you're
not sure your horse will load!

Kathy & Taz
