[RC] ALLERGIES (Sundaez) - Kristi SchaafHi Mel - Sorry, I'm on digest so don't have your direct email addy. I have a horse who has had such bad upper respiratory allergies that we thought he might be a roarer (until the roaring always went away after the first frost). He also had swollen lymph nodes, runny eyes & nose, etc, all summer. He did not have any skin allergies. I work at a vet school and asked a couple of vets what to do, and they pretty much shrugged their shoulders and said to try cortisone (and I said no way). Anyway, this year, at age 6, he has had almost no allergy problems. I of course can't say for sure since he's a one horse study, but I give the credit to APF, which I put him on early this spring. It's not cheap (a $60 bottle lasts me about 4-6 weeks) but it gives me hope that his allergies are under control enough that he can do some AERC rides next year. I'll be bummed if someone tells me that using APF is breaking the spirit of the unwritten drug rule (especially since I believe a respected endurance vet was involved in APF's development).
