[RC] Anhydrosis(puffer) - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: Paula pstich55@xxxxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== Hey everybody got a lab experiment going on my now retired endurance horse. I say retired now because this summer he is not sweating. Found out the hard way, out on the trail on the most humidest of North Florida days 4 miles out. He survived that crisis but hasn't responded to any of the "cures" out there. He is on One A/C, APF, Pro-SWEat and folic acid and B12 shots. Did a T-3 and 4 blood test and they were normal, Didn't run a blood panel though and am thinking that might also help. Plenty of fans in his stall where he prefers to be on the hottest times of the day. I've had him on these supplements for nearly 2 months and he is sometimes damp but not really wet when everyone else is dripping sweat. He is also still having hair loss which to my understanding is a symtom of the non sweater. He is on a high fat low grain diet and plenty of hay (a bit of a hard keeper). I competed this horse for 6 years and he was always sweating up a storm so this is a new thing, I hate to see him retired at such a young age and just when he seemed to be "getting it". But I don't trust that even when and if he sweats normally he will be able to withstand the stress of competition. Please don't suggest that I find him a home in the northern part of the country, he is my baby and I will nurse him til he is old, I even considered an air conditioned stall but he is fine in the stall with fans. If anyone has any experience with this, Maybe Susan? Do you know anything else that can be done.
