I've asked for a lot of help on ridecamp in the past few months.  I thought 
I'd update you all with my results from your suggestions.

1. Industrialsavings.com - cool cap - works GREAT in the high desert here, 
for 2-3 hrs of cooling.  I haven't tried their cooling vest yet.

2. Big Horn saddle adjustments - I removed the fender/stirrup holder from 
the tree and replaced it with English stirrup leathers - MUCH easier on the 
knees, even though the leathers are still a little too forward for my 
liking.  The extra mobility of the stirrup leathers makes a huge difference, 
much more than it looked like it would.  I can ride without knee braces, and 
without ibuprofen!  This will keep me for a little while.

3. Specialized saddle - just demo'd the International model - that's the 
English-Western hybrid.  It fit my horse like a dream - she moved out much 
more easily than with other saddles.  It fit me well, except that the 
English-style stirrup leathers PINCHED.  I tried placing them under the 
saddle flaps, but because my legs are so short, the flaps got in the way of 
free movement.  Also, it appears the International doesn't have as many 
D-rings as the Trailmaster.  It was so comfortable otherwise that I think 
I'm going to buy the Trailmaster version.
