Endurance racer's

With 40 miles of the 100-mile race behind them, Richard
Frazier anticipated riding his white Arabian stallion Hindi Shahab across the
finish line. And maybe, as in several past horse-and-rider events, they?d be
leaders of the pack. But that hope wasn?t to be. After high-altitude
training in Otero County?s Sacramento Mountains to prepare for the Tevis Cup in
Lake Tahoe, Calif., Frazier and his white Arabian stallion withdrew after an
injury. ?We had finished the most difficult section of the race, which was
the climb of 8,750 feet over Emigrant Pass, and had crossed the 20 miles of
humid bogs through a National Wilderness area,? Frazier said. ?I thought we were
in great shape as the metabolic part of the vet(erinarian) check showed the
stallion?s vital signs perfect with no stress.?
