[RC] Hi ! & a What Saddle to use in Mtns Question - DRG1
Hi,
I’m new here <waving Hi!!!>, just getting
started in CTR (maybe endurance in the future).
I’d like to introduce myself, plus ask a question, so
heres a little background…
I used to ride English 3 day eventing (did so for 18 yrs),
& rode in a Stubben Siegfried
(the one they USED to make – 1975 vintage), still have
it, beautiful saddle, but English
(to me) is too hard to ride in the mountains (7000 ft &
UGHHH Rocky..) where I live, work & play.
Got married, hubby only wanted to ride Western so I
switched. He ropes, so
I started too. I have been doing rodeo events since 1992
(competitive roping).
Have had some fairly severe orthopedic problems (back, hip) this
past yr, (me, not the horse),
so I am no longer able to really ride the Quarter horses
anymore (loping is very difficult on them for me).
Bought a Missouri
foxtrotter for the easy gaits & I can canter again! :^D (VBG)!
So, now I am looking for a saddle. I don’t want to
ride English for the aforementioned reasons,
don’t like western saddles anymore as the “twist”
is generally too wide for my hip,
so I figured a hybrid endurance saddle.
I am thinking the Tucker Equitation Endurance would be a
good one, but I tried the medium tree – didn’t
fit my MFT (too high, 4 fingers under the pommel), &
felt the stirrups were too far forward –
so I was not in a balanced seat, but riding on the cantle. I
am thinking this is cuz the saddle
was too high in front. I am waiting for the wide tree Tucker
Equitation Endurance to come in to try.
But, in the meantime, I am asking, what other endurance type
saddles have a cushy seat (for my back) & a “relatively” narrow
twist, & keep one in a “Balanced” seat to try? Anyone with a
gaited horse that’s used one would be a plus too! J
Thanks all, in advance for your reply, & nice to meet
you!
