Re: [RC] Lower back issues and endurance riding? - Barbara McCraryOften, a back issue is remedied by endurance riding, as doing lots of trotting, either posting or standing 2-point, strengthens the abdominal and back muscles. I have no suggestions on saddle type, but a horse with a smooth trot is essential. My husband had herniated discs many years ago, and endurance riding strengthened his back and helped a lot. He toughed it out for about 20 years, refused surgery, and is pain- and trouble-free now. A friend told me of painful sciatica that she suffered for some time. When I asked her how she overcame it, she said she went off on a multi-day ride! A strong upper back and abs are a great deterrent or solution to back problems.
