Re: [RC] buying, selling, breeding, producing - Maryanne Stroud GabbaniOne of the very first things that happened in Egypt four years ago with the UAE endurancefest was the skyrocketing prices in baladi Arabs. These are the tough working Arab horses that are all over Egypt...many look awful in their present state, but fed, trained and cleaned up some are lovely horses. They also offered outrageous prices for any good looking breeding horses (good looking in the sense of conformation for performance), and luckily for me, one owner of a beautiful stallion that was moving right along for endurance (until his young owner over rode and blew a tendon in a race badly) refused to sell. Tayel is pure Egyptian and has without question the best personality I've ever seen in a stallion. I saw Sherif take a nap lying UNDER him once and Tayel wouldn't have dreamed of moving one foot. I've been given the green light to breed my Dorika (she of the arthritic fetlocks...Mea Culpa! and jiggy personality) to him this fall if Tayel approves of Dory. He's one stud that you can put in a pasture with a mare in heat, and if he doesn't like her, it's a non-starter. Hopefully, he will approve of her and I will have one last foal from a mare that so far has managed to produce wonderfully-tempered chestnut colts....Let's hear it for a bay???
